Description
This is a recipe for baked black bean burgers served on whole wheat buns, offering a healthier, meatless alternative to traditional burgers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs (gluten-free if needed)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 whole wheat buns
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, avocado, mustard, ketchup, pickles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
- Add the bread crumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and olive oil to the mashed beans. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
- Place the patties on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the burgers are firm and lightly browned.
- Serve the black bean burgers hot on whole wheat buns with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Ensure the black beans are well-drained to avoid a mushy texture.
- For extra flavor, you can sauté the onion and garlic before adding them to the mixture.
- If the mixture is too wet, add a little more bread crumbs; if too dry, add a teaspoon of water or vegetable broth.
- These burgers can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 2 days, or frozen for up to 3 months (uncooked or cooked).
